We keep your income, expenses and receipts in order month by month, using software that matches how your business actually runs. That means no scramble at year end, and a clear picture of where you stand whenever you need it.
Payroll
from £6 / payslip
We run your payroll on time, every time, handling payslips, PAYE and pension contributions so your team gets paid correctly without you chasing dates. If HMRC send a query, we deal with it directly and tell you what it means afterwards.
Business Advisory
£120 / hour
When you're weighing up a big decision, hiring someone, buying equipment, changing how you're structured, we sit down and go through the actual numbers with you. You leave knowing what it costs, what it saves, and whether it stacks up.
About Us
Straightforward Accounting, Done Locally
We started Harbour & Vale because too many small business owners in Bristol were paying good money to accountants who left them more confused than when they walked in. We do the opposite: explain what a figure means before we act on it, and quote a fixed fee before any work starts, so nobody rings us nervous about the bill. Most of our clients are sole traders, tradespeople and small limited companies who need their tax return filed correctly, their books kept straight, and someone to ask when a decision feels too big to make alone. We answer emails in plain English, and we say "let me check" when that's the truth rather than guessing. We're a small firm, based here in Bristol, and we like it that way.

How do your fixed fees work? +
We agree a price with you before any work starts, based on what your business actually needs. It doesn't change halfway through, and there's no hourly clock running in the background, so you always know what you're paying.
I've never used an accountant before. Where do we start? +
We'd have a straightforward chat about your business, what records you've already got, and what's worrying you most. From there we tell you plainly what needs doing first, usually your tax registration or getting your books into shape, and take it from there.
Can you help if my bookkeeping is already a mess? +
Yes, and it's more common than you'd think. We'll go through what you've got, sort it into something usable, and get you back on track without making you feel bad about how it got there.
Do you only work with businesses based in Bristol? +
Most of our clients are local and we like meeting face to face when it helps, but plenty of our work happens by phone and email too. Wherever you're based, if plain answers and fixed fees matter to you, we're happy to talk.
What if I don't understand something you've sent me? +
Ask us again, as many times as you need. We'd rather spend ten minutes explaining a figure properly than have you sign off on something you're unsure about.
